Dear Parents,

Two days of class have already passed us by – summer has recharged our batteries and we’re ready! The school is buzzing with anticipation and excitement for what is to come for 2016-17. Peeking into classrooms, it’s apparent that the new academic year is starting off with energy, enthusiasm and the making of new friends. With language assessments wrapping up, students are on their way to settling into their classrooms, their subjects, and the new schedule, ready to take on the many exciting challenges of the first semester.

What a delight it has been to welcome the returning and new students to the programme – especially those who have made that big move from Grade 5 to Grade 6. I hope their transition has been everything we’ve promised: caring, exciting and energizing. Welcome to our community – we look forward to sharing in all of your accomplishments, both great and small, in the coming months and years.

We gone to great lengths these past weeks to ensure that everyone’s experience of the first weeks of the MYP at WISS for 2016-17 will be successful, and we would like to offer you the opportunity to get to know the programme even better as well. We are also very excited to welcome the new additions to our teaching staff – their high energy and commitment to the students is already readily apparent.

Shared here you will find a couple documents that provide a picture of how the MYP is organized and how it is delivered.  Through them you will get the sense of our values and our pedagogy.  For those of you who would prefer hard copies, information packages are also available on campus, so please pick one up in the office or request that one be sent home.

MYP Overview

Also, we hope you will be able to join us at the Parent Information Meeting on September 13  so that we can share an introduction to the many facets of our programme.  This will provide a great opportunity to connect families with school life and give you a forum where your questions about the MYP at WISS can be answered.

During this session we will preview the many exciting features that accompany the new academic year, including:

  • the second year of eAssessments: onscreen examinations and eportfolios for the Grade 10 class
  • the service learning model and the many service activities that accompany it
  • even more interdisciplinary units added to our curriculum
  • adjustments to the Approaches to Learning classes giving focus on personal and social well being along with a focus on individual learning skills

Of course, we would be more than pleased to discuss our programme further at any time with you.  Feel free to set an appointment for a meeting or send us your queries by email and we will be happy to shed further light on our curriculum.

Warm regards,

Andrew VanderMeulen
